  • When you master snow plough turns beyond the nursery slopes, you will start to love it.
  • Confident intermediate skiers need 200km of pistes to explore to have a great weeks skiing with a big lift system .
  • Cross Country Skiing is a lot harder than downhill skiing and can be extremely exhausting .

Mayrhofen Austria is the best resort for value.It is a flat bottom Valley with soaring peaks and 515km of piste networks . It is very friendly with everything costing less including lift passes ,ski school and ski hire . A ski package in a four star hotel with a pool will be 10% cheaper than other resorts . 

France has the best Ski in and Ski out Resorts.

Three Valley in France including Courchevet and Meribel  are the best value Resort for Ski Area and Passes

The best destination for families is Obergurgl in Austria due to good Ski schools and uncrowned slopes .This area has a long season and is good to Ski at Easter . It also specialises in intermediate pistes . The area has a great selection of four star hotels .This is not a good destination if you have a non skier in your party.

Reberty near Les Menuires has an excellent range of non skiing activities and ideal for families with British friendly catered chalets .

The area to visit for stunning scenery are The North Face of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau from Murren Switzerland . Hotel Eiger views are simply jaw dropping .The Coeur des Alpes  have views of the Matterhorn .

The best resort for a skier on a budget is Termignon France. The restaurants are inexpensive with cheap self catering chalets . The slopes suit intermediate skiers .

Tignes in France is ideal for late season ski holidays . Topped by a glacier and high altitude pistes. If you don’t mind travelling ,Lake Louise in Canada has a late season .

 

The Resort best for Bars and Restaurants is Val Thorens France . There are Michelin star Restaurants and lots of venues for party lovers .

Zermatt in Switzerland boast the best mountain views with piste side restaurants.

Val d isere is famous for the  Apres ski  .

Canazei in Italy is ideal for intermediate skiers but not great for Ski in and Ski out .

 

Courmayeur Italy is the best resort for a weekend break. The nursery slopes are small and busy .Innsbruck is highly recommend for the advanced skier and near the airport.

Great if you are travelling with a large group . They are catered by willing but not expert staff that clean and cook breakfast , afternoon tea and 6 evening meals .Five star Chalet have professionals to look after you and some even have private spas .

If you are a small group you have to share the chalet with strangers .

Hotel Pros

Is privacy and with family run property’s great food and service .

Hotel Con 

The standards are not equal as they are family run Hotels so you have to book 4* plus to get reasonable standard of accommodation anything less could be basic . Austria and Italy have the best kept and charming small hotels .

The reason the big name Resorts are worth the extra money are because they offer a large range of options for all skiing abilities .They have the right balance of pistes, bars and facilities with many English speaking ski schools .
